Driver killed in early morning single-vehicle crash

A 24-year-old man was killed in the early morning hours on Saturday when the vehicle he was driving likely struck a tree in Homewood, police said.

According to a press release, just after 5 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, crews from Homewood Police Department and Homewood Fire Department responded to reports of a traffic crash in the area of 187th Street and Loomis Avenue.

When they arrived, first responders found a single vehicle incident in which a maroon Chevrolet appears to have struck a tree on the south side of 187th Street.

They found the driver, a 24-year-old male and the vehicle’s sole occupant, who was deceased. Homewood Police have not released the driver’s identity pending notification of family members.

Circumstances of the crash are under investigations by the Homewood Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit with assistance from the Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team.
