Resurrected brewery, Citgo station, Ridge Road drainage project on Homewood trustees agenda

A closed brewery could see new life, and two long-languishing projects could see movement depending on actions of the Homewood Board of Trustees at its meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Homewood Brewing Company is in the process of purchasing the property at 18027-18029 Dixie Highway, formerly the home of Vice District Brewing, according to village officials.

The company is asking the village for financial assistance to redevelop the former brewery and taproom into a brewery and restaurant.

In addition, two high priority projects could take steps forward.

The board will consider a contract to acquire the former Citgo gas station at 2124 183rd St. for $40,000.

The property has been unoccupied for a number of years and is currently owned by the Cook County Land Bank Authority.

The purchase will help the property qualify for funding to cover the cost of environmental evaluation and remediation.

The board will also consider waiving competitive bidding to award a $91,350 engineering contract to design a drainage project to relieve flooding along the 1500 block of Ridge Road. The project would improve drainage along several intersecting streets, too.

The project has been a high priority for village officials for years.

In other business, the board will consider:

  • A citizen award for Todd Dorans.
  • Oaths of office administered to Shawn Santos and Daniel Uhlmann as firefighter/paramedics, and Alex Denman, Samuel Berrum and Ryan Rasmas as police officers.
  • The appointments of Marla Youngblood to the Senior Advisory Committee, Kathy Pagel to the Beautification Committee and Cece Belue to the Beautification Committee.
  • A lobbying contract with Maren Ronan. Her father, Al Ronan, has served as the village lobbyist for years but recently experienced health problems that prevent him from continuing.

The board will also discuss the municipal code update project.

The board meeting will be held in-person and will be accessible digitally. Fully vaccinated attendees may enter the village hall without a face covering. Unvaccinated attendees must wear a face covering.
