2021 Recyclepalooza a success

October 11, 2021 - 21:41

Organizers of Flossmoor Green Commission’s annual Recyclepalooza report they were able to reduce, reuse and recycle plenty of donations. The event on Oct. 2 gave donors the chance to drive through the Parker Junior High parking lot and have their trunks emptied by volunteers in a COVID-19 safe event.

Stephanie Wright, a spokesperson for the village, said two 24-foot trucks were filled with cast-off household goods that were given to the Jones Center, a helping agency in Chicago Heights. The American Legion was given 32 American flags for proper disposal.

Volunteers also counted 237 ink jet and laser printers, 60 TVs and 226 trophies and commemoratives that will be repurposed and used at senior centers as awards for winners in Wii tournaments and other events. The collection also included old eye glasses, plastic bread packaging ties, Lego pieces and more.

An untold number of items and bits and pieces went to Gaby Metal and Iron Co. in Chicago Heights where they will be broken down into scrap metal and recycled.
