Vice District Brewing is hoping to open its Homewood location in July after the village granted an extension to its financial incentive agreement June 26. The craft brewer’s owner Curtis Tarver II said in an email to the H-F Chronicle that the remaining construction on the building at 18027-18029 Dixie Highway should take about a week.

Two years after it opened in downtown Flossmoor, Bakewell Bakery has closed in somewhat mysterious fashion. The bakery, which cooked up sweet and savory English treats, was open as recently as Saturday, June 23. At 5:15 a.m. June 25, Bakewell posted on its Facebook page a brief announcement that the shop was closing.

Vice District Brewing is requesting that Homewood officials approve a second extension for a business incentive funding agreement.

The village board will consider the request at its regular meeting Tuesday, June 26.

The craft brewery was approved in September 2016 for $100,000 in financial assistance to develop a brewery and taproom at 18027-18029 Dixie Highway, but the project has been delayed by several unforeseen circumstances.

Amended license allows Rabid Brewing to plan outdoor activities

Rabid Brewing will soon host outdoor events after the Homewood village board approved an amendment to the business’s liquor license at the June 12 board meeting. Rabid’s license didn’t originally allow for the outdoor sale of alcohol. The change allows the brewery to sell beer to patrons in an outdoor area at the brewery at 17759 Bretz Drive.

The book store dream comes true: Bookie's is coming to Homewood

When Homewood residents talk about what businesses they would like to see in town, one idea comes up consistently: a book store.

It looks like that wish is about to come true.

Keith Lewis, owner of Bookie's New and Used Books in Chicago's Beverly neighborhood, said he signed a lease last week on a Ridge Road store front in downtown Homewood.
