Homewood Planning and Zoning Commission to consider request to rezone Calumet Country Club property

The Homewood Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday to consider rezoning the former Calumet Country Club property to enable industrial use on the land, which has been a golf course since 1917.

If approved, the rezoning request by W&E Ventures LLC would rezone the property at 2150 175th Street from PL-2, public land and open space, to M-1, limited manufacturing use.

A group of citizens has formed South Suburbs for Greenspace over Concrete to argue against the proposed development of a distribution warehouse at the former Calumet Country Club in Homewood. 

SSGOC operates as a campaign of Illinois Southland Against Fossil Fuel Energy, which opposed a natural-gas power plant in Glenwood. The developer backed out of that project in 2019. 

Lawsuit settlement would keep former country club property in Homewood

A settlement in the two-year dispute over the future of the former Calumet Country Club in Homewood is on the agenda for the  Homewood Board of Trustees meeting Tuesday, Jan. 26. 

If approved, the agreement will settle a lawsuit filed by the new owner of the former Calumet Country Club, who sought to disconnect the property from the village. 

Homewood trustees to consider settlement over Calumet Country Club lawsuit

At its regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 26, the Homewood Board of Trustees will consider an agreement to settle a lawsuit filed against the village. The purchaser of the former Calumet Country Club property, 2136 175th St., filed suit in Cook County Circuit Court to disconnect the property from Homewood.

Homewood approved ordinance to amend enterprise zone

Homewood approved an intergovernmental agreement to apply for changes to the boundaries of the Cal Sag enterprise zone at its Sept. 24 village board meeting. Enterprise zones are intended to encourage private investment in economically depressed areas. Businesses located inside those areas and meeting certain criteria can be exempt from some taxes.
