2 men face attempted armed robbery charges after April 20 incident

Two Park Forest residents have been accused of attempted armed robbery after allegedly threatening two people in Homewood on April 20. 

Mark Blankenberger, 34, of Cherry Street, and Jaryl Johnson, 29, of the 3200 block of Western Avenue, each have been charged with two counts of attempted armed robbery, according to the Cook County Circuit Court clerk.

Sheriff warns of phone scammers claiming to represent sheriff's office

Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart warned residents on Friday of a phone scam in which the caller claims to be a member of the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

In this scam, the caller makes notification that there is an allegation against the victim and that payment is required. A spoofing application is used to make it appear on caller ID that the phone call is coming from a Cook County Sheriff’s Office number.

Homewood police seek information about daytime burglaries

Homewood police are seeking information about two daytime residential burglaries that occurred Jan. 23 and Jan. 24 in the Governors Park neighborhood.

The break-ins happened in the 17600 block of Rockwell Avenue and the 2200 block of Hawthorne Road. Both burglaries occurred between late morning and early evening, according to police. No one was home at either residence. 

Homewood man shot at Naperville train station Tuesday

A 45-year-old Amtrak conductor from Homewood was shot by a passenger at the Naperville train station Tuesday afternoon, according to a news release from Naperville police.

Police said they received the report of a gunshot victim on the train platform at 4:45 p.m. The conductor, who had been shot once in the torso, was transported to Edward Hospital in Naperville and was conscious and alert.

Homewood police report armed robbery Friday afternoon on Halsted Street

Two men stole a woman's cell phone shortly after 3 p.m. Friday in the parking lot at 17605 Halsted St. in Homewood, according to police.

One of the men displayed a handgun during the robbery, police said.

The two men left the area in a red SUV. 

Police urge anyone with information about the incident to contact the Homewood Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit at 708-206-3420.
