H-F's natural gas costs soar due to Texas winter storm

The “act of God” winter freeze in Texas had a direct impact on the cost that Homewood-Flossmoor High School paid for natural gas.

The district’s winter gas bill would normally be $30,000 but this year it was $280,000 due to a spike in the gas commodity prices when about a third of the natural gas supply in Texas was lost to the freeze, said Lawrence Cook, District 233 business manager, at the April 6 board meeting.

H-F High School board gets help prioritizing major maintenance projects

DLA Architects updated a 10-year report that is designed to help Homewood-Flossmoor High School administrators and District 233 board members prioritize infrastructure projects.

“This is meant to be a tool,” said lead architect Ed Wright of DLA as he and architect Ryan Kelley gave an overview of their work at the February meeting of the board’s Finance Committee. The work is divided into three sections:

The District 233 Finance Committee got unwelcome news Wednesday when Ed Wright of DLA Architects told them bids for work on the proposed Performing Arts Center came in more than $4 million over what is budgeted.
 
The school district has a plan to build new spaces at Homewood-Flossmoor High School for performing arts, band and orchestra and to redesign current spaces for fine arts. The board has budgeted $10 million for the project.
 

Scariano running for another term on H-F High school board

Jody Scariano will be seeking re-election to the District 233 school board in the April 2, 2019, election.
 
She believes her “record and proven leadership” over the past 20 years puts her in a position to continue the excellent work the board has done for Homewood-Flossmoor High School.
 
“I’m just really excited to be running,” she said. “I think H-F is amazing.”
