New squad car cameras allow remote viewing of police activity

Flossmoor police officials will soon be able to monitor traffic stops and other activity on camera, and in real time.

Following this week’s approval of new squad car camera systems, remote viewing of law enforcement activity will be possible at Flossmoor’s police station.

Village board members, at the Aug. 21 meeting, unanimously voted to purchase the GETAC police camera system for $56,425. The updated system is likely to be installed in the next few weeks.

H-F police departments invite community to National Night Out events on Tuesday

Homewood and Flossmoor police departments will be hosting National Night Out events from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 1. The annual event is a nationwide effort to provide an opportunity for residents to get to know their law enforcement officers and other emergency responders — and to get to know each other.
 

Thieves target unlocked cars during vehicle burglary spree

Multiple burglaries to vehicles were reported to Flossmoor and Homewood police last weekend. 

According to a July 17 email alert from the Flossmoor Police Department, multiple residents awoke to find their vehicles had been entered and property stolen. There were no signs of forced entry into any vehicle; all appeared to have been left unlocked.

Coffee with a Cop comes to Flossmoor Friday

The Flossmoor Police Department hopes to build a better relationship with the community, one cup of coffee at a time, on Friday, June 9.

Officers will be on hand to meet local residents from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Bakewell Bakery, 1050 Sterling Ave.

“Coffee with a Cop” is a national movement that aims to build trust between the public and police. The goal is to provide an opportunity for the public to meet local officers in a friendly setting and learn about what they do.

Man charged with armed robbery following heist at CVS store

A Hazel Crest man was charged with armed robbery after sticking up Flossmoor’s CVS store on May 18, police said Friday.

Keith Crumpler, 51, of the 17000 block of Shae Drive, is also facing charges from a string of robberies in Chicago and other south suburban communities, said Tod Kamleiter, Flossmoor’s deputy police chief. He said Crumpler was charged with the CVS robbery after he was identified in a May 24 lineup at the Flossmoor police station.

Burglaries reported to Flossmoor police late Friday, early Saturday

Multiple burglaries to homes and vehicles were reported to Flossmoor police Friday night and early Saturday morning.

According to an email alert from the Flossmoor Police Department, officers responded to a burglary in progress in the 2100 block of Evans Road at 11:10 p.m. April 21. The homeowner reported hearing noises coming from the attached garage. Responding officers secured the garage and searched the area and did not locate any the suspects.
