At its July 13 meeting, the Flossmoor School District 161 Board of Education approved a plan that would allow parents to choose between a hybrid in-person/remote learning option and all-remote learning when school opens in the fall.

At the board's July 20 meeting, discussion of a more detailed draft plan is on the agenda . 

District 161 board votes to offer two school options for fall semester

Flossmoor District 161 board members approved a plan on Monday that provides families a choice between all-remote learning and a hybrid approach to school attendance for the 2020-21 academic year.

A third option — returning to in-person school five days per week — did not receive strong support from parents or staff on recent surveys conducted by the district. About 27 percent of parents preferred that option, but only 15 percent of staff opted for it.

The Flossmoor School District 161 board is planning to meet Monday to consider a reopening plan for fall semester. 

The district recently conducted staff and parent surveys to gauge support for several options in the complex project of reopening schools during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results were posted on the district website.

Summer classroom sizes in SD 161 will be limited due to pandemic

Flossmoor School District 161 is looking to limit classroom sizes during its summer academy to encourage student engagement.  

School board members and district administrators discussed plans for the summer session at a special meeting May 7, which was held remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Classes will be limited to eight to 10 students during the program and will be held remotely.  

End of school year marks retirement for 25 faculty, staff

As faculty and staff in Homewood and Flossmoor schools wrap up this school year, there won’t be any special goodbyes, celebratory cake or parties for faculty and staff ending their careers due to the coronavirus pandemic. These special people in the lives of our children deserve all the recognition and kudos they’ve earned for their service.

District 161 charts best path to remotely operate a school system

Flossmoor School District 161 mapped out and approved a COVID-19 response plan at a special April 2 board of education meeting.

As the district continues its period of remote learning, the plan establishes how the district's operations will continue in light of limited face-to-face interaction due to the school shutdown.

School administrators unveiled the plan at the meeting conducted remotely due to the pandemic crisis.

As the second week of remote learning comes to a close for Flossmoor School District 161, providing students with the tools they need to work from home has been a priority.

The district’s remote learning plan went into effect March 16 and has been extended through April 30 in alignment with Governor J.B. Pritzker’s stay-at-home order.  

Flossmoor District 161 eligible for Illinois property tax relief grant

Flossmoor School District 161 is eligible to receive about $1.7 million as part of the fiscal year 2020 Illinois Tax Grant Relief program.

The Illinois State Board of Education announced Jan. 27 that 39 school districts are eligible for the program this year, up from 28 districts the previous year, according to an ISBE press release.
