D161 enrollment up this school year despite expectation of a drop after graduation of large class

Enrollment is up slightly in Flossmoor School District 161 this school year.

Superintendent Dana Smith updated the board of education on enrollment figures during a meeting held Tuesday, Oct. 12. Total enrollment in the district is 2,310 students for the 2021-2022 school year, compared with 2,245 students last year, he said.

H-F High enrollment heading down? Maybe not

An enrollment study shows Homewood-Flossmoor High School is likely to record a student decrease from its current 2,964 students, but several school board members questioned that finding.

While enrollment is nowhere near the 4,300 students of the early 1970s, the District 233 Planning Committee didn’t want to believe enrollments would take a serious drop when home sales have been so high.

District 161 sees success with remote learning as it works out the kinks

An all-remote start to the 2020-2021 school year wasn't Plan A for Flossmoor elementary schools, but so far so good, according to officials.

“We really did have a positive start,” Superintendent Dana Smith told members of the District 161 Board of Education at its Monday, Aug. 31, special meeting. “A number of things went really well last week.”
