H-F board hires new director of operations and maintenance

The District 233 School Board hired James Patterson to take over as director of operations and maintenance when Tom Wagner, the current director, retires in December after more than 40 years with the district.

The board accepted the recommendation of school administrators at the board's Oct. 19 meeting. Patterson will be paid $120,000 annually. He is currently associate director of physical plant at Olivet Nazarene University.

H-F High reports budget of $61.8 million for 2021-22 school year

The District 233 school board is set to pass a $61.87 million budget for the 2021-22 fiscal year at its Sept. 21 board meeting.

The overall budget of $61.87 million shows $59.4 million in revenue leaving a deficit of $2.46 million. District 233 Business Manager Lawrence Cook said that drop in revenue is due to an error when the Cook County Clerk’s Office failed to include a tax abatement on last year’s property tax bills. The abatement appears on this year’s bills.

H-F committee gives OK for lights at softball field, reviews other improvements

The District 233 Finance Committee is recommending lights be added to the softball field at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, the first in a list of physical plant updates estimated between $3.52 and $3.62 million.

The proposal for the lights will be presented to the full school board at its rescheduled meeting set for 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23, at the high school.

D233 board rejects recording meetings, citing expense and legalities

After more than two years of research and debate, the H-F High School District 233 board voted down a proposal to videotape the board’s meetings. The roll call at the Tuesday, Sept. 17, meeting was four "no" votes from board president Steve Anderson and members Gerald Pauling, Debbie Berman and Nate Legardy, with two "yes" votes from members Annette Bannon and Beth Larocca.
