Survey lists nearly 2,000 trees in H-F parks

The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District inventoried 1,893 trees in 2018 when it undertook a study of the tree population at 31 of its parks and properties. Parks employees Mauricio Morales and Gabe Gacsko walked the parks and measured every tree in the district, except Irons Oaks, Coyote Run and the parks department office site, to complete an accurate inventory, according to Doug Boehm, superintendent of parks and planning.
 

H-F parks election sees Johnson re-elected, Ojode wins open seat

Two seats on the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District Board of Commissioners were open in the April 2019 election. Voters chose board president Steve Johnson to remain on the board, and also selected newcomer Linda Ojode. Ojode will fill the seat vacated by outgoing commissioner Christina Jackson, who did not run for reelection. Ojode beat out Brit Volini, who lost her second bid for a park district seat, by 2,308 votes to 2,083 votes.

 

Park Board prioritizes spending for 2017-18 budget

The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District commissioners met with staff on March 7 to review plans for upcoming expenses in the next budget year.
 
The Homewood-Flossmoor area’s equalized assessed valuation (EAV) has been dropping, causing the park district to lose tax revenue. Commissioners went through the list and thanked staff for their diligence in recognizing what expenses could be reduced or put on hold.
