No matter how much you save, it seems you always come up short when calculating the cost of your child’s college expenses. Homewood-Flossmoor High School counselors share as much information as possible with families to help them estimate what a college education will cost and learn about the many ways available to finance it.

Part 3: College Preparation at H-F

The Homewood-Flossmoor Class of 2014 had 711 graduates, and 95 percent went on to two-year or four-year colleges. The class had an 11 percent acceptance rate at Ivy League colleges, which was well above the national average of 6 percent. Three graduates went to Yale University. Yet the Illinois State Board of Education’s State Report Card says the ACT scores show just 48 percent of H-F seniors are prepared for college using the ACT College Readiness Benchmarks. Why the disconnect?


Auction to help H-F singers share their talents with Europe

The 55 members of the H-F Master Singers are holding an auction on Jan. 16 at 8 p.m. to raise money for their singing tour in Budapest, Vienna and Prague. With a theme of “Passport to Prague and Beyond,” the room will be transformed into a European adventure with steamer trunks, passports and old cameras. Kim O’Lone, publicity chair, promises “it will be fabulous.”
