Homewood library board approved $2.7 million levy

The Homewood Public Library submitted a 2020 tax levy of $2,741,450 to the Cook County Clerk’s Office.

The library board approved the levy at a Dec. 2 meeting.

The levy shows an increase of just 2% over the 2019 levy of $2,687,986. 

The library is currently closed under COVID-19 mitigation restrictions. Librarian Colleen Waltman said patrons are using curbside pick-up and using the library’s drive-thru services to collect books and other materials. 

Homewood library adds service hours to schedule

The Homewood Public Library is extending service hours for materials pick-up service to regular business hours.

The library, 17917 Dixie Highway, is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays starting Sept. 13. Patrons can come into the library by appointment. Appointments are set on the hour. Visits are limited to 45 minutes, giving staff 15 minutes to clean spaces before the next visitors arrive.

Homewood library staff reaches tentative contract agreement

Employees at the Homewood Public Library say they have reached a tentative agreement on a contract with the library board. Details of the package were not available. Employees organized with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 31 after their weekly hours were reduced by two hours per week in 2015, librarian Sandy Sullivan said Wednesday.
