Science Center hosts moon landing celebration July 17

The Homewood Science Center will have you looking at the moon — and doing a few other fun things — at its Wednesday, July 17, “Footsteps on the Moon” program. Stop by the science center at 18022 Dixie Highway between 5 and 9 p.m. to mark the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing by Apollo 11 astronauts. The event is free, but registrations are being accepted at https://forms.gle/hk9aQafo1Tmr8GcD6.
 

PopUp Science spreading around the globe

The Homewood Science Center started its free PopUp Science program in 2016 as a way to share science concepts with the community. 
 
Now the ideas behind PopUp Science are being learned by science enthusiasts around the world, thanks to the Homewood Science Center’s membership in the STEM Learning Ecosystem, a national and international network working to change how students learn, educators teach and how businesses develop a workforce for the 21st century.

Santa’s workshop has been busy A variety of toys geared toward science and technology and a host of Homewood Science Center items are available Nov. 24 through Dec. 27 at the PopUp Science Shop. His special creations are available at the Homewood Science Center’s PopUp Science Shop starting Saturday, Nov. 24.

The specialty toys will help break the status quo with fun gifts that will encourage a child’s learn in the process. The shop is stocked with toys not seen in the traditional toy aisle. 

 

Homewood Fire Department will show off new truck, provide fun safety lessons at annual open house

Residents will have a chance to get a close-up look at Homewood's brand new fire truck on Saturday during the annual Fire Department open house.

The event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 17950 Dixie Highway will also include a crowd favorite, the live burn that demonstrates the importance and effectiveness of sprinkler systems. 

Homewood Science Center puts tickets on sale for 3rd Walk Walton event

Tickets are on sale for the Homewood Science Center’s third Walk Walton fundraiser celebrating nature, science, music and crafts on Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Izaak Walton Preserve, 1100 W. Ridge Road in Homewood. Discounted rates apply for tickets purchased by Oct. 10.  Individual and group rates are available.
