mARTin Avenue: Color, sound and science return for 9th Art & Garden Fair

For a few hours during last year's Homewood Art & Garden Fair, a one-block stretch of Martin Avenue asphalt became a canvas on which local artists unleashed their imaginations. It will be again when Chalk of the Town returns from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 11, as part of the ninth annual festival, which will fill downtown Homewood with food, music, art and activities for families.

When the Homewood Science Center board of directors started looking for an executive director, they were looking for someone who shared their vision and could gather the financial resources to make the vision a reality. They chose Edie Dobrez of Flossmoor to lead the way.

Homewood Rail Festival expands to Martin Square, includes science activities

The Village of Homewood will celebrate the community's railroad history with its 12th annual Rail Fest from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, in downtown Homewood. As in the past, the event will take place in the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District Auditorium, 2010 Chestnut Road, but for the first time, it will also include activities at Homewood's new Martin Avenue Square and at the new Homewood Science Center.
