Flossmoor sales tax figures triple following Meijer opening

Flossmoor’s monthly sales tax revenue jumped threefold following the opening of the Meijer superstore in June.

The State of Illinois Friday posted sales tax numbers for July, the first full month Meijer’s Flossmoor store was open. They show the village receiving $67,384 in sales tax revenues for that month.

Flossmoor Finance Director Scott Bordui said that amount is $45,000 more than average monthly distribution in the previous year.

Two face felony charges following theft of Playstation from Meijer

Two area men have been charged with felony retail theft after allegedly stealing a Playstation 4 game system from the Flossmoor Meijer superstore.

Aaron J. Catledge, 20, of the 200 block of Rose Court in Glenwood and Laquan R. Kimble, 18, of the 17900 block of Huntleigh Court in Country Club Hills were arrested and charged on Aug. 3, said Flossmoor Police Sgt. James Hundley. The theft is considered a felony because of the value of the stolen merchandise, he said.

Meijer opens Flossmoor superstore with $50,000 gift to community

Meijer opened its superstore in Flossmoor Tuesday with a gift to the community — two donations of $25,000 each to Flossmoor School District 161 and Park Forest School District 163. “My dad taught us that giving back is just something you do,” said Mark Meijer, a board member with the Michigan-based chain of grocery and superstores, at the grand opening ceremony.

Meijer announces 280 job openings at Flossmoor superstore

Meijer announced Monday it is seeking applicants for 280 jobs at its Flossmoor superstore, scheduled to open this summer. In a press release, the retailer said available positions will include openings for clerks and cake decorators, customer service jobs, cashiers, receiving clerks and meat cutters. Starting pay will be based on experience level and specific skills.
