District 233 school board approves $62.52 million budget for 2019

The District 233 school board approved a projected operating budget of $58.77 million for Homewood-Flossmoor High School for the 2019 fiscal year ending June 30, 2019. Expenses are projected to be $58.73 million leaving the district with a balance of $40,000.
 
The biggest share of the budget is $40 million collected in real estate taxes. Under Illinois’ tax cap legislation, taxes can only increase 2.1 percent, the increase in the Consumer Price Index.
 

Flossmoor School Board talks budget, construction projects

Construction projects costing about $3.9 million leave Flossmoor School District 161 with a projected deficit of about $3.3 million for fiscal year 2019 despite an operating budget surplus of nearly $700,000.
 
The Flossmoor School Board on Monday heard a preliminary budget report as well as an update on three construction projects that were supposed to be completed before the beginning of the school year.
 

Homewood School Board sets budget hearing date, approves new hires

The Homewood School Board has set a date for a public hearing on District 153’s fiscal year 2019 budget.
 
The hearing will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 24 in the James Hart Media Center, 18220 Morgan St. The board is set to take action on the budget during its regular meeting scheduled immediately after the hearing.
 
Superintendent Dale Mitchell said he does not expect to hear much debate before the budget comes to a vote, as no big changes are proposed.

H-F Board passes balanced budget despite state aid reductions

Long-range planning helped Homewood–Flossmoor District 233 pass its 13th consecutive balanced budget, according to Ken Parchem, the district’s business manager.

State funding has dropped the past five years, but the school board — working with Parchem — has managed to reduce expenses to meet the financial challenges. At its September board meeting, the board approved a budget of $53.4 million and gave kudos to Parchem for his outstanding work.
