Homewood issues emergency business curfew, Flossmoor police urge people to stay home after reports of looting in the area

Homewood officials declared an emergency early Sunday afternoon and ordered all businesses in the village to close until further notice after receiving reports that vandalism and possibly looting had occurred in nearby communities. Flossmoor officials issued a similar notice urging people to stay home as a precaution.

Several long-term projects are on the agenda of Monday’s Flossmoor Village Board meeting.

Board members are being asked to approve the next phase of a water supply study that will pave the way for Flossmoor making a significant change in how the village receives its Lake Michigan water. Under the proposed plan, Flossmoor would purchase its lake water from Chicago Heights, to the south, instead of Harvey to the north. The switch would go into effect in 2022.

PPE needed. In its COVID-19 update on Saturday, the village of Flossmoor provided information about how to donate personal protective equipment to healthcare workers. Serve Illinois is seeking potential donors of masks, gloves, gowns, eye protection, infection control kits, hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes and forehead thermometers.

Savings in village funds point to upbeat budget picture in Flossmoor

Flossmoor kicked off its annual budget process with a note of optimism following a year that brought mostly positive news about the village’s fiscal well-being.

That good news, however, was tempered by nagging concerns about the best way to make municipal ends meet when revenues are stagnant and the community’s overall equalized assessed valuation (EAV) still has not fully recovered from the 2008 recession.
