H-F theater students present ‘Akeelah & the Bee’ Sept. 27, 28, 29

Homewood-Flossmoor High School’s theater program will present “Akeelah & the Bee” at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 27 and 28, and at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, at the school’s Mall Auditorium, 999 Kedzie Ave. in Flossmoor. 
 
H-F’s Morgan Barber will portray Akeelah Anderson, a young Chicagoan who has a gift and a passion for words. Her aptitude earns her a spot in the National Spelling Bee, inspiring the people in her neighborhood with her courage and tenacity.  
 
The play is presented with permission from Plays for Young Audiences. It is directed by J.R. Rose, H-F English and Fine Arts teacher, working with assistant directors/understudies Aaron Newman, Brandon Eddy, Ellie Wojcikowski and Grace Opyd.
 
Cast members are Elise Armstrong, Charles Austin III, Anthony Aviles, Barbara Burns, Bill Colton, Mark Cruse, Ariel Davis, Destiny Garner, Lauren Gosha, Isabella Jackson, Nate Jones, Jonathan Kriarakis, Lilah Kries, Laila Malak, Noelle Oh, Anaya Powell, Zora Shannon, Audrey Simmons and Nia Valdez. 
 
General admission tickets, available at the door, are $9 for adults and $6 for students, children and senior citizens.
