New sculpture on the way to Highlands Park after Flossmoor approves honorarium

A new sculpture soon will be joining Flossmoor’s outdoor Rotational Sculpture Program.

The Flossmoor Village Board voted unanimously Tuesday, Sept. 7, to pay an honorarium of $3,000 for “Reaching for the Sky,” by Hilde DeBruyne. The sculpture is to be placed at Highlands Park near the intersection of Lawrence Crescent and Harolds Crescent for three years, after which it is to be returned to the artist, who was born in Belgium but now resides in Iowa.

Community looks to the future of Flossmoor during strategic planning sessions, survey

The Flossmoor community has had its say in how the village’s strategic plan will evolve; now it is the village board’s turn.

The village wrapped up an online survey Aug. 31 and before that held three community feedback sessions, one via Zoom and two in-person at Village Hall. The stated intention of the ongoing process is to review Flossmoor’s progress, as well as identify needs and opportunities for the next five years.

Associate Superintendent: D161 facing ‘rough, rough start’ to transportation this school year

Schools nationwide are facing transportation issues to start the 2021-2022 school year, and Flossmoor School District 161 has not been immune to the trend.

“It’s been a rough, rough start,” Associate Superintendent Frances LaBella told the district’s board of education the evening of Monday, Aug. 30.
