Flossmoor police chief reassures community after home invasion

Flossmoor Police Chief Michael Pulec sent an update and an offer of reassurance to community members concerned about a recent home invasion and sexual assault.

“This type of crime is understandably upsetting, and I want to assure you that the police are doing everything we can to solve this crime,” Pulec said in an email notice.

Homewood resident sues village over water bill

In a lawsuit filed in Cook County Circuit Court Tuesday, Aug. 26, a Homewood man is alleging the village fraudulently inflated his water bill and is seeking $50,000 in damages.

Attorney Paul O. Otubusin said last week that his water bill had been at about $200 per billing cycle for several years.

Then June 5 he received a letter from the Village of Homewood alerting him to an unusual spike in water usage — $5,195-worth of water, according to the suit.

Trustees give lukewarm reception to amusement tax reduction proposal

A proposal to reduce the village amusement tax from 5 percent to 2 percent met with a mixed response from the board of trustees Tuesday, Aug. 26.

The measure was tabled until a local business requesting the reduction, Brunswick Zone XL, can provide more information. At issue was whether the business could provide evidence of hardship caused by the tax and whether it could pass on some or all of the tax burden to customers.

Homewood trustees approve medical cannabis zoning

If a medical cannabis dispensary wishes to begin operation in Homewood, it will need to find a home in the M (industrial) zone.

By a 4 to 2 vote Tuesday, Aug. 12, the village board of trustees approved medical cannabis dispensaries as a permitted use in the M zone, which runs from Dixie Highway and Harwood Avenue, along Maple Road and 175th Street on the north side of the village.

Homewood baseball team seeks community support for trip to World Series tournament

When the last out was made in the last game of the Ohio Valley regional baseball tournament, the Homewood All-Stars 12U team was victorious.

It was the end of an improbable run, according to one team parent. And the 2-1 victory over Prairie Village, Ky., earned the All Stars a trip to Aberdeen, Md., to compete in the Cal Ripken World Series.

Now the team needs a bit of help from the community. Two local businesses will be holding fundraisers Tuesday, Aug. 5.
