Flossmoor police seek information about manhole cover thefts

The Flossmoor Police Department is investigating the theft of several manhole covers, according to an email alert from the department.

During the overnight hours Monday, Nov. 10, someone removed manhole covers from several locations around the village.

Similar incidents occurred in nearby communities the same evening, police said.

Police ask any one who witnesses suspicious behavior or non-public works personnel removing manhole covers to dial 911 immediately.

Village officials mark retirement of long-time Public Works staffer

The Village of Homewood Board of Trustees marked the retirement of long-time staff Public Works Department staff member Robert LaChapelle at its meeting Tuesday, Oct. 28.

LaChapelle started with Homewood Public Works in June 1979 as a maintenance worker in the landscape maintenance division, according to Public Works Director John Schaefer. By 1994, LaChapelle had worked his way up to utility division supervisor, a post he has held since.

Homewood library to host storyteller from National Association of Black Storytellers Nov. 13

Homewood Public Library will be hosting storyteller Mitch Capel at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, according to a news release from the library.

Capel is a storyteller, recording artist, poet, actor and author. He has been bringing stories to life and delighting audiences throughout the United States with his warmth, wit and compelling storytelling style since 1985.
